Welcome

I'm Collin
UX Designer +
Researcher

Identifying the “why” behind user motives, behaviors, and beliefs is my passion. Knowing why we interact with technology is the first step towards building great design on and off the screen.

I hold a Master of Science in Human-Computer Interaction Design, from Indiana University Bloomington. I mentored graduate design students on design and research techniques, implementation, analysis, and presentation. My experience additionally extends towards digital agency work at Vox Global, where I juggled a variety of web designs from scratch, as well as the daily interactive visualization demands of the agency.

UX Design takes intentional decision-making. I gather the intangible, sometimes invisible values that make our lives worthwhile, and give them a voice. I translate these values to insights and communicate their meaning. These insights become the agents of change.

Pivot, Walkthrough

2 Weeks, 3 Designs, 1 On-site, 16 Users

What does it mean to drop everything in order to design, evaluate, and impact the First Time User Experience of your SaaS solution in two weeks? The startup Talentguard asked the same of my team, and through tight alignment, quick planning and measurements for success, we were able to see for ourselves.

Negotiating the business needs of a large client, our internal Leadership proposed for our design team to meet the needs of their large user set with a proprietary, scalable walkthrough design feature. Our team created 10 flows of designs in 3 prototypes in 4 days with no precedent set beforehand. Then, we created a Research Plan, flew to Buffalo, NY in order to be held accountable.

Read about how I led our pivot in the link below.

Connecting People, Connecting Spaces

Why are we still reliant on real estate agents? The startup rentLoop posed the same question. Real residents of real apartments know the lived experience. Why not ask them?

Analyzing the existing business case to leading a distributed group of designers. We succeeded in creating a hi-fidelity prototype to target the lynchpin touchpoint in a P2P Apartment Rental Experience. Our design connects the delicate relationship of strangers who want to capitalize on their own spaces.

Students at the Center

Mobilizing Teaching Resources

Students at the Center (SATC) needed to re-engage their community of parents, teachers, and students with their priceless resource: student-centered learning techniques in the New England area.

I tackled the redesign from analyzing our previously gathered data, to wireframing and mocking up the high-fidelity landing page alongside my Creative Director and Senior UX Designer. Check out how we brought the primary user, parents, to their learning resources more efficiently, to ultimately help their children’s future.

Order Up

Fast Communication, Faster Food

What does it look like to disrupt the fast food market? Relish Works, food-tech incubator in Chicago, challenged us to do just that, with a focus on Third Party Delivery Drivers. But how?

From discovery to hi-fidelity prototype, we succeeded in identifying the pain points between delivery drivers and food service workers in order to deliver the solution, an app called Order Up. Our design is a human-centered interface between delivery drivers and food-service workers on their cook line. Ultimately, connected B2B brings the best user experience to their hungry customers

Check out what we did in the 5 day sprint.

Hakim Setup

How can a Doll-House Diorama Build Better Museum Experiences?

Museums are complex spaces filled with ambiguous, foreign, enticing, and sometime grotesque experiences. But what is the future of a museum? How can we aid curators to optimize the exhibit to the end-user experience?

To answer that, we created an offline artifact by laser-cutting plywood and piecing together miniature exhibits all for the sake of the user experience. To explore our projects various research methods and the strange road that took us from an awkwardly placed chair to a flow-state diorama, check out this project, Hakim Setup.
